Research

Dr. Clark's research spans the intersection of race and gender throughout the educational pipeline.  She is the co-author of Empowering Men of Color on Campus: Building Student Community in Higher Education. This monograph introduces the concept of educational agency in order to understand how Black and Latino male students negotiate college through engagement in a male success initiative.

Dr. Clark's is working on a second project which examines how raced and gendered discourses impact the experience of Black boys in urban schools.

Teaching

In teaching Dr. Clark encourages students to see the connections between social problems, history, and societal structures.  Her teaching is also centered on the intersection of race and gender.  She has taught classes such as Race, Ethnicity, and Gender, Diversity and Inequality, Sociology of Gender, and Sociology of the Black Community.  In these classes students explore questions such as: Do race, class, and/or gender matter? Do we live in an equal society? How does your social location impact your life chances? What are the historical foundations of today’s most pressing social issues?
